FAQ

The questions we get asked most.

Pricing, plans, and how we build. If yours is not answered here, just ask and we'll come back to you within one business day.

Pricing & Payments

  • Do I have to sign a long contract?

No. The build is quoted up front and paid in milestones, and the care plan is month to month. There's no minimum term, no lock-in and no exit fee. If you want to stop, you stop at the end of the month you've already paid for.

  • How do payments work?

We send you one firm quote before anything starts, so you know the number. Builds are split into milestones, so you pay in stages as the work lands rather than all upfront. Invoices are due within 14 days. All prices are in Australian dollars and exclude GST.

  • How do you handle late payments?

We'd much rather have a conversation than send a reminder, so if money is tight or something has gone wrong, just tell us. If an invoice does go past its due date we may charge interest at the RBA cash rate plus 4% per annum, plus whatever it actually costs us to chase it. There's no flat penalty fee. If we ever need to pause work or hosting over an unpaid invoice, you get at least 7 days written notice first, and if you're disputing an invoice in good faith we leave that amount alone until it's sorted.

  • Are there refunds?

Before we start building, if we can't land on a design you're happy with and you'd rather not go ahead, we refund what you paid to get started. Once the build is underway and you decide to stop, we invoice the work completed so far and refund anything you've paid beyond it. Care plans you can cancel any time, and we don't charge past the month you've already paid for. None of that limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

Plans

  • What's actually in the care plan?

Hosting, SSL and security patching, automatic backups, monitoring, keeping everything up to date, a set amount of small changes each month, and support from the person who built your site rather than a queue. It starts at $59 a month and it's optional, never a condition of us building your project.

  • Can I cancel the care plan?

Any time, and it takes effect at the end of the month you've already paid for. Unused time in a month doesn't roll over, so there's nothing to reclaim. On the way out we give you an export of your site, its source code and its database at no charge, and we hold a copy for 30 days so nothing gets lost in the handover.

  • What if I want to move to another host or another developer?

Then we help you do it properly. You get the full source, the database and an export of your content, free, and we unlock and hand over your domain. We don't hold files, data or domains against an unpaid invoice. If you owe us money we'll chase it like a normal business, not by taking your site hostage.

  • Is SEO included?

The on-page fundamentals are, and they matter more than most people expect: genuinely fast load times, clean semantic markup, accessible structure, proper meta tags, a sitemap and Search Console set up. What we don't sell is an ongoing SEO retainer, paid ads or social media management. And nobody can honestly promise you a ranking, because search engines change their algorithms whenever they like.

Software

  • Do I own the code?

Yes. Once the project is paid in full, the custom code, designs and graphics we built for you become yours, and we hand over the complete source. The only things we keep are our own reusable tools and boilerplate, and you get a perpetual licence to keep using those as part of your project, including hosting it wherever you like.

  • Do we own our domain?

Always, even if we registered it for you. We use domain privacy and set it to auto renew so it can't lapse by accident, and if you want to move it we unlock it and give you the transfer code for free. We never take hostages.

  • How long does a build take?

A starter site is usually 2 to 3 weeks. Bigger builds with booking, dashboards or custom features take longer and get a proper schedule with milestones. The single biggest factor is how quickly content and feedback come back to us, so if you have your words and images ready, everything moves faster.

  • Do you use WordPress or page builders?

Nope. Everything we make is custom, hand written code. No page builders. That's what separates us from the others: we put the time and effort into doing things properly, and it shows in load times, in the way the site holds up, and in how easy it is to change later.

  • Why custom code over WordPress? What are the advantages?

Speed, security, maintainability and lower running costs. A custom build ships only the code your site actually needs, so there's no plugin bloat slowing it down and no monthly scramble to patch a dozen add-ons before one of them gets exploited. Where a site genuinely needs a database, a CMS or user accounts, we build those properly and keep them patched under your care plan. It's also far easier to change: adding a feature is a change to your code, not a hunt for a plugin that almost does it.

  • How do we request changes to our site?

Email us. It goes to a real person who knows your build, and small changes covered by your care plan usually land the same week. Anything bigger we quote in writing first, so nothing turns up on an invoice you weren't expecting.

  • What happens to my site if something happens to you?

You're never locked to us, and that's deliberate. You own your code, you own your domain, and you can ask for a full export of your site, source and database at any time, free. So if we disappeared tomorrow, any competent developer could pick your project up and keep going. We'd rather you stayed because the work is good, not because leaving is hard.
